There is some confusion today over who God’s “special people” are. Yes the obvious answer is those that believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ and trust in Him for their sin’s atonement. But to be more Biblical, or rather technical – we are not. Prior to us was the nation of Israel, and whether we choose to accept it or not, scripture is clear that God will again deal with the nation of Israel.
Why is this important?
Because it is causes a ripple affect of incorrect division of scripture, which leads to the formation and persistence of a myriad of cults and religious movements. Doctrines that this thought process helps promote; is replacement theology, works salvation, soul sleep, eternal life on earth and a whole host of ‘cult-type’ philosophies.
Proof? Give me Proof!
We will break down the proof into plain logic, by looking at the Bible in overview, and then delve more specifically into some scripture (as often times, that which is logical when viewed in accordance with His Word becomes unbiblical and thus illogical).
A Logical Argument:
Firstly, in the Bible we see God deal with different groups of people, and give those people different instructions. We clearly see the Gospel being different through the ages; the good news for Noah’s time (was get in the boat, the floods coming), for Adam and Eve (don’t eat from the tree of knowledge, of good and evil); for Israel as a nation – obedience to God’s law and pardon for sin through sacrifice (not forgiveness of sin). God spoke to individuals and nations; and had specific instructions for them.
Now the OT predominantly deals with who as a people? Israel! There is no church, and in fact there is little to any “salvation” for non-Jews (Gentiles). The books in the OT (39), predominantly deal with Israel, and are instructions for them. Before you begin allegorizing, and making application, or labeling a chapter prophetical; it has primary roots in being HISTORICAL; for a time, for a people and written by a people; ISRAEL.
Jesus Christ came to what area? Who did he predominantly minister too? What descent where the 12 disciples? What descent was Jesus? In the genealogy of Christ, shown in Matthew 1; all the people mentioned are of one nation? Repeatedly, the answers will be the same; God from the OT (up until Acts 2) was working with the nation of Israel and in a predominantly Jewish area.
For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God:the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth (Deuteronomy 7:6)
I’m really strong on multiple verse support, but this verse is a clincher. It just nails it down instantly, and to which there is no debate, or response. Israel, Jacobs sons (forming the 12 tribes), are God’s special people! We are not Jewish (Israeli), we are Gentiles, grafted in, due to their rejection of the Messiah, and the Kingdom of Heaven. Not enough for you, check the following references: Deut 14:2;Isaiah 41:8-9; 43:10; 44:1; 48:12; Daniel 11:15.
Read Romans 9. A snippet, 9:4 – Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises.
The Bible is so clear, I’m going to end right here – let the truth shine forth!
